Grove City Greyhounds Take Down Westerville Central

(Friday, October 1, 2021) - The Grove City Greyhounds hit the road for an October matchup against Westerville Central last Friday.  Westerville hosted their homecoming, crowning a new king and queen, and also hoping to take a victory on their home turf.  All seem to be going in Westerville’s favor as they took an early 6-0 lead at the 8:25 mark in the first quarter.  But the Greyhounds struck back with a two-yard touchdown run at the Q1 4:20 mark by #2 Markel Carter, followed by the PAT by #38 Dylan Stephens to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Westerville fought back to take a 14-7 lead with 9:14 remaining in Q3 and held onto the lead until #10 Christian Issacs punched in a 5-yard touchdown run at the 4:04 mark in Q3.  #38 Dylan Stephens put the PAT through the uprights to tie the game at 14-14.

The Greyhounds and Warhawks battled it out defensively for most of the fourth quarter, until Matthew Papas and the Greyhound offense drove down inside the Warhawk red zone with the Greyhounds going for it on fourth down.  #10 Christian Issacs once again powered into the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Greyhounds back on top.  The PAT was no good and with :54-seconds left in the game, the Warhawks had one last chance.  Grove City’s #32 Ryan Reber then sealed the win with a late interception, putting Papas and the Greyhounds offense back on the field to close out the game.

The Grove City defense played aggressively as a unit all night.
