Meet Grove City High School Sports Media Voice, Aidan Fusner
Have you ever wanted to keep up with Grove City sports when you can’t make the game? Score updates, game recaps, maybe even watch it live? Well thanks to one Grove City, Ohio High School student, Aidan Fusner, he’s making that possible for you for free, on Barstool Grove City.
Aidan is like a lot of young adults in Grove City. He’s entering his senior year in high school. He has two siblings, including a twin brother, Evan, and a younger brother, Ashton. He has to keep up with school while working part time to make some money. And he’s interested in sports. But what makes Aidan different from most of his peers, is what he does with his free time - Aidan chooses to cover Grove City, Ohio High School athletics.
Some of you may be familiar with Barstool Grove City, but if you’re not you will be by the time you’re done reading this. Barstool Grove City is a voice that keeps us informed on Grove City High School sports, and I mean all sports. Aidan is the voice behind the content that is created, published and syndicated through several social media outlets; Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch included.
Aidan is a busy kid, spending 12-15 hours a week pre-planning, broadcasting, interviewing, publishing and posting content. Aidan doesn’t charge a dime for the content he shares. He does it because he loves it. “I started Barstool Grove City because I felt like our school and our athletics deserved better coverage”, said Aidan. “Some sports were covered better than others and I believe all of our student athletes deserve exposure and awareness.”
So what does Barstool Grove City cover? Well, everything. For fall sports you’ll see football, volleyball, golf, soccer, cross country, cheer, and tennis. When it comes to winter and spring, Barstool Grove City is just as active covering it all. You can check out the schedule for yourself on his Twitter feed.
What’s really impressive about Aidan is his drive. He’s a self starter. When asked three words that best describe him, he didn’t hesitate. “I’m accountable, responsible, and punctual”, Aidan shares. He’s also introspective, citing things he works on to be better at. “After each broadcast I self analyze how to improve the next one. I also work on relationships with coaches and administrators in order to have access and space to be able to do my work during events.” He shared what a luxury it is to be able to have a seat in the press box during games.
Aidan is very respectful. I tried to pry out of him his favorite interview, but he wouldn’t budge. His perspective on that question is that he simply enjoys all of the interviews he does, be it the head baseball coach or football assistants, they’re all equal to him. “Each interview is good in its own way and I can’t choose one over another.” He did share that being a part of covering the 2022 baseball team from spring all the way through their matchup in the state title game was special and an experience he’ll always remember. I think there are many that would agree.
As a parting question I asked Aidan if there is anything else he’d like to share. His response, “We live in a great community - I love Grove City. I’m involved in freshman mentoring at school and I tell them to be imaginative, ask for help when needed, and be a better person.” What a great response.
